Interview Preparation Checklist

You only get one chance to make a first impression.  Be Prepared.  Be Yourself.

It’s not easy going through the interview process. It’s arduous and stressful. We want to see you succeed. Knowing what to expect in the interview is very helpful. Getting feedback from other crewmembers who have interviewed before you is one of the best sources of information.

Here are a few pointers to keep in mind when preparing for your interview:

Be Prepared

  • Have all required application documents filled out neatly and completely.
  • Have at least three letters of recommendation (unless otherwise stated).
  • Have copies of your:
    1. Resume
    2. Application
    3. FAA Certificate
    4. Medical Certificate
    5. Passport (if applicable)
    6. Driver’s License (if applicable)
    7. Driver History Record (if applicable)
    8. Last page of your log book (if applicable)
    9. Green card (if applicable)
    10. Any other document requested by interviewer
  • Make sure all of your licenses, certificates, passport, etc. are CURRENT
  • Bring your logbook. If you have more than one bring the most current one, however, you may want to bring all of them.
  • Don’t forget your glasses. We strongly recommend bringing a spare pair.
  • We recommend trying to rent sim time in the same type of aircraft as will be used for the simulator evaluation part of the interview (if applicable).

Be Knowledgeable

  • Know as much about the company you are interviewing with as you can.
  • Be able to answer questions pertaining to a past incident or accident (if applicable).
  • If there is a written exam, try to find appropriate study materials.
  • Be prepared to answer questions about:
    1. The current aircraft you are flying. This includes: aircraft limitations, systems knowledge, OPS SPECS limitations pertaining to your aircraft, etc.
    2. FAA rules and regulations
    3. Airmanship Knowledge, i.e., Holding procedures, Airport markings, Parts of an ILS- airborne and ground, etc.
    4. Any other materials/subject the interviewer stipulates ahead of time.

Dress For Success

  • You cannot over dress for an interview- even if you’re the only one in a suit.
  • Shine your shoes.
  • Have a nice pen in your shirt breast pocket.
  • Have a professional looking briefcase or binder with your documents neatly organized in it.
